Roblox sexual abuse lawsuits allege that the gaming platform exposed children to predators who used chat features, games, virtual currency, and friend requests to begin grooming them. In many cases, the predator allegedly moved the child from Roblox to Discord, Snapchat, text messaging, or another private channel before demanding explicit images or arranging an in-person meeting.
These lawsuits extend beyond the criminal conduct of individual predators. Plaintiffs contend that Roblox knew children were being targeted on its platform but failed to implement reasonable age verification, communication restrictions, moderation systems, reporting procedures, and parental controls in a timely manner.
Federal Roblox child sexual exploitation cases are consolidated in MDL No. 3166 before Chief Judge Richard Seeborg in the Northern District of California. The litigation is moving through early discovery, bellwether selection, and a major dispute over whether Roblox can force claims into private arbitration.

August 2026 Roblox Lawsuit Status
- Federal cases: The August 3, 2026 JPML report lists 177 pending actions and 182 total actions filed in the Roblox MDL.
- Bellwether process: Plaintiffs were ordered to file amended bellwether complaints by July 21, 2026.
- Arbitration dispute: Roblox and other defendants must file their bellwether motions to compel arbitration by September 8, 2026.
- Settlement process: Judge Seeborg has announced his intent to appoint an experienced settlement master. That does not establish an individual compensation program.
- State agreements: Nevada, Alabama, West Virginia, and Mississippi have reached government enforcement settlements requiring safety reforms and substantial payments for state programs.
Roblox Sexual Abuse Lawsuit News and Updates
Roblox MDL Reaches 177 Pending Cases
The August 3 JPML report lists 177 pending lawsuits in MDL No. 3166. A total of 182 actions have entered the federal proceeding since its creation in December 2025.
The current case count is more than twice the approximately 80 cases initially transferred into the MDL. New filings continue while the parties prepare selected claims for bellwether proceedings.
The next major deadline is September 8, 2026, when Roblox and other defendants are scheduled to file motions seeking to compel the bellwether plaintiffs into arbitration.
Mississippi Reaches Roblox Child-Safety Agreement
Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced an agreement requiring age verification, parental consent, age-appropriate content, restrictions on adult communication with minors, enhanced grooming detection, and expanded parental controls.
The agreement includes $9 million for digital-literacy and parental-education programs. It also provides for $5 million in liquidated damages if Roblox fails to comply with the agreement.
The money is directed toward state programs and enforcement. It is not a settlement fund for families pursuing individual sexual abuse lawsuits.
Roblox Rolls Out New Accounts for Users Under 16
Roblox announced the worldwide rollout of Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts. Roblox Kids accounts are designed for users ages 5 through 8 and have chat turned off by default. Roblox Select accounts cover users ages 9 through 15 and include age-based content and communication settings.
The company also expanded parental controls and said users who have not completed an age check will eventually be unable to use standard accounts or Roblox chat.
These changes may be relevant to whether stronger protections were technically possible. Roblox does not concede that its earlier systems were defective or that the new measures establish liability in pending cases.
Connecticut Opens Investigation Into Roblox
Connecticut Attorney General William Tong opened an investigation seeking records about Roblox users, revenue from children, use of Robux, safety systems, parental controls, reported exploitation, and the company’s response to public warnings. The investigation follows lawsuits and enforcement actions brought by other states.
Roblox Government Settlements
Four states have announced agreements with Roblox addressing child safety. These are government enforcement resolutions. They require payments, safety reforms, or both, but they do not determine whether Roblox is liable to an individual survivor.

The state settlements fund public programs, enforcement, and safety reforms. They do not create a compensation chart for children who were groomed or abused. An individual case must still prove Roblox’s legal responsibility, causation, and the survivor’s damages
What Are the Roblox Sexual Abuse Lawsuits About?
Roblox is an online gaming and creation platform used heavily by children and teenagers. Users can play games, create virtual experiences, communicate with other users, exchange virtual currency called Robux, and develop continuing online relationships.
The lawsuits allege that Roblox Corporation negligently failed to adopt adequate safeguards to protect children from predators. Plaintiffs contend that the platform combined a young user base with social features that allowed adults to identify, contact, befriend, and groom children.
Predators allegedly used friendly avatars, shared interests, gifts, Robux, and promises of gaming assistance to gain a child’s trust. After developing that relationship, the adult could move the conversation to a private service where parental controls and Roblox moderation no longer applied.
Roblox denies that its platform is defective and emphasizes its moderation systems, reporting tools, parental controls, age checks, communication restrictions, and continuing investments in child safety.
Safety Failures Alleged in the Roblox Lawsuits
Legal Claims Against Roblox
The specific claims vary by state and by the facts of each child’s case. Common legal theories include:
- Negligence: Roblox allegedly failed to take reasonable precautions to protect children from foreseeable grooming and exploitation.
- Negligent design and product liability: Plaintiffs contend that communication, recommendation, age-assurance, and reporting features were designed in ways that exposed children to predators.
- Failure to warn: Families allege that Roblox did not adequately disclose the risk that adult predators were using the platform to identify and contact children.
- Consumer protection and misrepresentation: These claims allege that Roblox marketed the platform as appropriate or safe for children while failing to disclose known risks.
- Wrongful death: A family may have a separate claim when exploitation contributed to suicide, homicide, or another fatal injury.
Who May Qualify for a Roblox Sexual Abuse Lawsuit?
Your child may have a potential claim if contact with a predator began or materially developed through Roblox and led to serious exploitation or abuse.
Cases being investigated include allegations involving:
- Requests or demands for explicit photographs or videos.
- Sexual grooming or coercive conversations.
- Threats to distribute intimate images.
- Payments, gifts, or Robux exchanged for sexual content.
- An attempted or completed in-person meeting.
- Sexual assault, kidnapping, or trafficking.
- Self-harm, suicide attempts, hospitalization, or intensive psychological treatment.

You do not need to know the predator’s legal name before contacting a lawyer. Usernames, account identifiers, game names, screenshots, dates, police records, and platform data may help identify the person and reconstruct the communications.
Evidence to Preserve
Do not delete the child’s Roblox account or related social-media accounts. Preserve what remains, including:
- Roblox usernames, display names, user IDs, profile links, and game names.
- Screenshots, chat records, friend requests, and account notifications.
- Robux purchases, transfers, gifts, and transaction histories.
- Discord, Snapchat, Instagram, text-message, email, or other off-platform communications.
- Reports made to Roblox, another platform, school officials, police, or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
- Medical, counseling, therapy, hospital, and school records.
- A timeline of contact, grooming, threats, exploitation, disclosure, and resulting injuries.
Do not contact the accused predator or attempt to conduct your own investigation. A lawyer can send preservation requests and seek account information through formal legal procedures.
Potential Settlement Value of Roblox Abuse Cases
The public record does not show an individual Roblox survivor verdict or a published compensation schedule. The government agreements discussed above cannot be used to calculate the value of a family’s civil claim.
We believe the strongest Roblox cases can have substantial value when plaintiffs prove that a platform failure contributed to severe and lasting harm. Cases involving hands-on sexual assault, trafficking, kidnapping, production or distribution of explicit images, suicide attempts, hospitalization, or permanent psychological injury may support seven-figure damages. That is a case-specific assessment, not an average settlement prediction.

Deadline for Filing a Roblox Abuse Lawsuit
The filing deadline depends on the survivor’s age, the state involved, the date of the abuse, when the family discovered the resulting injury, and the defendants being sued.
Many states give survivors of childhood sexual abuse additional time to file claims against the perpetrator or an institution. A claim against an online platform may also involve negligence, product liability, or consumer protection deadlines that do not operate the same way as the deadline for a direct claim against the abuser.
The creation of the federal MDL does not extend the deadline for an unfiled claim. The pending arbitration dispute does not stop the statute of limitations either. Have the dates reviewed before assuming your child has years to decide.
